See 'n Say Toy

Here is another childhood favorite from 1966! It's a Mattel The Farmer Says See 'N Say toy.

Instead of the common standard pull string action to start the "Arf Arf" or "Moo Moo", these earlier toys required you to turn the farmer in the middle of the toy until his pointed finger aimed at the sound you wanted to hear.

  1. Oh, how I loved my See 'N Says! You have a really nifty blog - I found you through a Woodsy owl PSA on YouTube and will definitely add you to my blog roll.

  3. You pointed the farmer and then pulled the string out. I loved this toy. I must have had it second-hand because I wasn't born yet in 1966.

  4. I'm old. I had an original. I wore it completely out. In fact, the duck used to skip, and it sounded like someone grabbed him and squeezed just after the first quack!!!! My mom encouraged me to play with something else, but my dad and I used to have so much fun cracking up listening to the duck... I remember us sitting in the playroom with tears running down our faces we were laughing so hard.... thanks for the memories, that's one I hadn't thought of in YEARS!!!

  5. I don't remember it having the Farmer figure. It usaully have a picture of a farmer holding a shovel and standing next to a pig in a farm. It the word "SEE N SAY" "THE FARMER SAYS" And a Mattel logo. There was also a jungle version of it known as "THE ZOO KEEPER SAYS". Where a zoo keeper would hold a broom and stand next to a monkey. The Farmer Says has a Dog, a Duck, a Frog, a Horse, a Coyote, a Rooster, a Pig, a Cow, a Bird, a Cat, a Turkey, and a Sheep. The Zookeper Says has a Lion, a Monkey, a Wolf, a Kangaroo, a Seal, a Tiger, a Hyena, a Panda Bear, a Parrot, a Hippopotamus, and an Elephant.

  6. My sister had one of these, but not with farm or zoo animals, on my sisters there was a purple dragon, brown bears, pink pigs, buzzy bees, mice etc, and as well as the noise the animal made it taught counting (1 purple dragon....roar etc) I'm trying to find out what this version was called if anyone can remember it :)
