Wacky Races

Wacky Races was an animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions. The series features 11 different cars racing against each other in various road rallies, with each driver hoping to win the title of the "World's Wackiest Racer." Wacky Races ran on CBS from 1968 to 1969.

The eleven racers and their numbers were:
  • Dick Dastardly and Muttley in the Mean Machine 00
  • The Slag Brothers in the Bouldermobile 1
  • The Gruesome Twosome in the Creepy Coupe 2
  • Professor Pat Pending in the Convert-a-Car 3
  • Red Max in the Crimson Haybailer 4
  • Penelope Pitstop in the Compact Pussycat 5
  • Sergeant Blast and Private Meekly in the Army Surplus Special 6 (the Surplus Six)
  • The Ant Hill Mob in the Bulletproof Bomb 7 (the Roaring Plenty)
  • Lazy Luke and Blubber Bear in the Arkansas Chuggabug 8
  • Peter Perfect in the Turbo Terrific 9 (the Varoom Roadster)
  • Rufus Ruffcut and Sawtooth in the Buzzwagon 10

  1. Boomerang plays this to death, running it almost every day, even though there's not enough episodes to warrant a daily schedule. It did, however, spawn 2 spinoffs, Dastardly & Muttley in Their Flying Machines and Perils of Penelope Pitstop, the following season.

    It created an anachronistic nightmare, to be sure. However, "Wacky" was reincarnated twice itself, if you can consider "Yogi's Space Race" (1978) and the Fender Bender 500 (from 1990's Wake, Rattle, & Roll---Yogi & pals vs. Dastardly & Muttley) derived from "Wacky".

  2. I had TOTALLY forgot about this - but as it played and introduced each of the racers, I remembered them! And of course, we all loved Penelope Pit Stop!
