Shining Time Station

Shining Time Station was an American children's television series that aired on PBS from January 1989 to June 1993. The series starred Ringo Starr, George Carlin, Didi Conn, Brian O'Connor, The Flexitoon Puppets, and Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends.

Shining Time Station was a train station that resided on the Indian Valley Railroad. The station was managed by Stacy Jones, the station master whose grandmother, Gracie Jones (who gave the station its name), ran the station when she was Stacy's age. The station's workshop was run by railroad engineer and mechanic Harry Cupper.

A local named Horace Schemer (simply called Schemer by his friends) ran the station's arcade and was always finding new ways to make more money or to protect his arcade.

There was a jukebox inside the arcade that housed a band that performed for the nickels that were dropped inside.

Mr. Conductor was a tiny man who lived in a signal house inside the station's mural and told the stories of "Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends" to the kids. He could teleport in a cloud of his magic gold dust.

The Rockford Files was an American television drama series which aired on the NBC from 1974-1980. The show starred James Garner as Los Angeles-based private investigator Jim Rockford.
Rockford had served time in California's San Quentin Prison in the 1960s due to a wrongful conviction. After five years, he received a pardon. His infrequent jobs as a private investigator barely allowed him to maintain his dilapidated mobile home (which doubled as his office) in a parking lot on the beaches of Malibu, California.

Rockford's father, Joseph "Rocky" Rockford, was an ex-Seabee, semi-retired semi-truck driver who often nagged his son to get more stable (and less dangerous) employment, often urging him to follow in his footsteps as a truck driver. The relationship of father and son was an integral part of the show.

Groovie Goolies was an animated television show that aired on CBS between 1970 and 1972.

It was a spinoff of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Sabrina's cousins, the Groovie Goolies, all reside at Horrible Hall, a haunted boarding house for monsters. Heading the operation was the short-tempered Count Dracula.

The Groovie Goolies were:
Frankie: A Frankenstein's Monster who headed the Muscle-leum Gymnasium ("great for body building").
Wolfie: A hippie werewolf who supervised recreation, often getting on Dracula's nerves.
Hagatha: A plump witch who served as resident cook.

Bella La Ghostly: A vampiress switchboard operator.

Dr. Jekyll and Hyde: The two-headed resident doctor who often fought as to which one of them was Jekyll and/or Hyde.

Mummy: A mummy who worked as a T.V. announcer

Boneapart: A skittish skeleton in a Napoleon hat who had a tendency to go to pieces (literally!).

Ghoulihand: A giant, disembodied glove (no Irish brougue).

Batso and Ratso: Two fanged, impish brats with a penchant for playing mean practical jokes that often backfired.

Hauntleroy: A rotund, sissy kid in a sailor suit who was often the primary foil for Batso and Ratso's tricks.

Tiny: A diminutive, long-haired mummy (Mummy's cousin) with a high-pitched voice.

Missy: An enigmatic spook whose face was a large, single eye, and whose body was hidden by her long, pink hair.

Green Acres was an television series that was broadcast on CBS from September 15, 1965, to April 27, 1971.

It was about Oliver Wendell Douglas (Eddie Albert), an accomplished and erudite New York City attorney, acting on his dream to be a farmer, and Lisa Douglas (Eva Gabor), his glamorous, bejeweled Hungarian wife, dragged unwillingly from the privileged city life she adored to a ramshackle farm.

Much of the humor of the series derived from the pragmatic yet short-fused Oliver attempting to make sense of the largely insane world around him. There seemed to be a dual perspective of reality: Oliver versus everyone else. The latter envelops the Hootervillians – and inexplicably Oliver's affluent mother. Mother Douglas lampoons Oliver and mollifies Lisa. There were times when it appeared that Oliver himself lost his bearings, such as when he rented a rooster or climbed a telephone pole to make a call.

The dishonest, oily salesman Mr. Haney, who sold Oliver the Green Acres farm, continues to con his easy "mark" in most episodes. Haney, along with young, glib farmhand Eb Dawson, scatterbrained county agent Hank Kimball, and grocer Sam Drucker, make up the main supporting cast. Eb habitually addressed the Douglases as "Dad" and "Mom", much to Oliver's irritation.

Mr Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television and has remained in production since its debut. Over the years, the original toy was joined by Mrs. Potato Head and supplemented with accessories such as a car and a boat trailer.

An occasional short feature appeared called "Science of the Rich and Famous" in which celebrities appeared to explain a science principle; as examples, rock star Ted Nugent explained guitar feedback, Olympic Gold Medalist skater Scott Hamilton demonstrated the angular momentum of a skater's spin, and Betty White showed how cats purr.

Who remembers Underoos! Underoos was a brand of underwear for children, produced by the Fruit of the Loom company. The packages include a matching top and bottom for either boys or girls, featuring a character from popular entertainment media, especially superhero comics, animated programs, and fantasy/science fiction. In many cases, the garment mimics the distinctive costume of the character, encouraging the wearer to pretend to be the character. In others it features an image of the character and/or logo on the undershirt.

Chico and the Man was a sitcom which ran on NBC from September 13, 1974 to July 21, 1978, starring Jack Albertson as Ed Brown (The Man), the cantankerous owner of a run down garage in an East Los Angeles barrio, and Freddie Prinze as Chico Rodriguez, an upbeat, optimistic Chicano street kid who comes in looking for a job.

A hard-drinking widower, Ed (Albertson) stubbornly refuses to fit in with the changing neighborhood and has alienated most of the people who live around him. Ed uses ethnic slurs and berates Chico in an effort to get him to leave. Yet Chico sees something in Ed, and sneaks back in at night to clean up the garage and move into an old van that Ed has parked inside. As Ed sees all the effort Chico has put in, he begins to warm to Chico. Eventually, Ed grew to see Chico as a son, although he will deny this on many occasions.

Dynamite was a magazine for children founded by Jenette Kahn and published by Scholastic Press from 1974 until 1992. The first issue, Dynamite #1, was dated March 1974 and featured characters Hawkeye and Radar from the television series M*A*S*H. The final issue, Dynamite #165, was dated March 1992 and featured actress Julia Roberts and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Popular in the 1970s and 1980s, the magazine served as a guide to popular culture for a generation of children. In the late 1970s/early 1980s, Cheerios released a series of commercials that featured an animated "stick-man" chasing a yodeling cereal box with the word "Cheerios" written on the side. The box kept zooming by the stick-man singing "Cheerio-ee-oh-ee-ohs" and "Yummy Oaty-oh-ee-oh-ee-ohs". The man would try unsuccessfully to catch the elusive box before attempting the Cheeri-yodel himself, at which point the box would land by his side. Later commercials would be of stick-man figures in varying situations (on a pogo stick, beating a bass drum in a marching band, etc.) beginning to feel run down because they did not eat a good breakfast, at which point the yodeling Cheerios box would fly by with a reminder, after which they would be back at their peak.

The Bugaloos was an American children's television series produced by brothers Sid and Marty Krofft, airing on NBC on Saturday mornings from 1970 to 1972. The show featured a musical group comprised of four British-accented teenagers, who lived in fictional Tranquility Forest. They wore bug-themed outfits with antenna and wings which allowed them to fly (though on occasion flying on surfboards), and were constantly beset by the evil machinations of Benita Bizarre who was covetous of the Bugaloos' musical prowess.

The segments, featuring race cars and spies, were shown regularly from 1969 to 1991, with vocals provided by Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane.

Disney Read-Alongs were a series of illustrated books for children with accompanying recordings of the books being read. The first Read-Alongs, book-and-record sets, were released in 1965 by Disneyland Records; several hundred titles have been produced.

The books were typically adaptations of popular Disney movies, cartoons, and other stories, running 24 pages. A narrator (or in some titles, a character from the story in first-person) read the story, and dialogue and songs from the original source were included. The sound of Tinker Bell's chimes was the signal for the reader to turn the page. The books always contained the tag line "SEE the pictures, HEAR the record, READ the book." The first editions typically had this introduction:

"This is a Disneyland original Little Long-Playing Record, and I am your story reader. I am now going to begin to read the story of [insert title here]. You can read along with me in your book. Shirt Tales was an animated cartoon that ran on NBC from 1982 to 1984.

It featured Tyg Tiger, Pammy Panda, Digger Mole, Rick Raccoon, and Bogey Orangutan. They all wore shirts which flashed various brightly lit messages reflecting the characters' thoughts. They lived in Oak Tree Park, and spent their time teasing Mr. Dinkle, the park ranger, and battling crime in and out of their hometown of Mid City. They zipped around the world in a vehicle known as the STSST (Shirt Tales' SuperSonic Transport) which could operate as a car, jet, boat, submarine, and just about any other form of imaginable ride.

My Two Dads was a sitcom that starred Staci Keanan, Paul Reiser and Greg Evigan. It aired on NBC from 1987 to 1990.

The show began when Marcy Bradford, played by Emma Samms in flashbacks, the mother of Nicole Bradford (Keanan), dies. The two men who had competed for the woman's affections — Michael Taylor (Reiser) and Joey Harris (Evigan) — before Nicole was born had been awarded joint custody. The mix-ups of two single straight men raising a teen-aged daughter provided the story each week. Judge Margaret W. Wilbur (Florence Stanley), a family court judge, would frequently visit the new family and served as Nicole's mentor. Nicole's actual paternity was never revealed on the show.

Muppet Babies was an animated television series that aired from 1984 to 1990 on CBS.

The show portrayed childhood versions of the Muppets living together in a large nursery in the care of a human woman called Nanny. Nanny appears in almost every episode, but viewers never see her face, only the babies' view of her pink skirt as well as her distinctive green and white striped socks.

Each episode included a single storyline. Usually the babies were confronted with a child-like problem, such as fear of the dentist, or a question, such as 'where do muffins come from?' Other times, they were simply finding ways to amuse themselves with old toys or video tape equipment. The babies would then enter into their imaginations, transforming their toys into everything from time machines to pirate ships.
