The Mattel Motor Putt Putt Railroad was released in 1972. To make the train go, you simply had to twist the smoke stack and off it went! I can remember that it didn't work perfectly... That's probably because we set it up on shag carpet which made the track uneven! Oh, that harvest gold shag!!
I remember receiving this for Xmas.
ReplyDeleteI've still got the tan "barn". It came home with me from my parents home in a pile of old toys for my kids. It has seen better days.
ReplyDeleteThank you ! Thank you ! Had one of these. Didn't remember till now. God ! Thank you for this site. It's weird. I'd rather we all do without this technology these days, but without it I would never see these things. Still would rather go back in time.
ReplyDeleteI had this too! But our shag was green LOL
ReplyDeleteIt was a cute toy, i think Mattel was trying to go back to the days of wooden toys that were simple to operate.
ReplyDeleteI had this train myself. infact I was just telling my fiance about it not long ago. couldnt remember what it was called, but said I wish I still had it so I could pass it on to my son. I sold it to my cousin when I was like 12 to make money for christmas. that tasmanian devil had it destroyed in about 2 weeks. sure do miss that train.
ReplyDeleteI forgot that I had this toy as a kid!
ReplyDeleteI have this train set!! I received a Putt Putt train set when I was a kid and 41 years later I own one as a collectible. It is mint with all the pieces and the train runs great. They never would do more than 4 laps with the cars (3 if the engine is worn) around the track, guess the spring motor was limited and the train cars are well built and heavy.
