The Buford Files was an NBC Saturday morning cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1979.
Buford is a smart but sleepy bloodhound who lives deep in the murky swamp county of Fenokee. He teams up with two teenagers, Cindy Mae and her older brother Woody, and the trio solves confusing mysteries that baffle Sheriff Muletrain Pettigrew and his overeager, but dimwitted deputy Goofer McGee. Buford's abilities are expanded with ears that revolve like radar dishes, and his nose responds to clues like a geiger counter; he also howls his heart out when the moon comes out and has a running feud with a karate-wacking raccoon.
I don't remember this one, but it seems like a mix of Scooby Doo meets Dukes of Hazzard on the Bayou
ReplyDeleteBuford Files is actually a component of Yogi's Space Race (1978), and was spun off into its own half-hour, coupled with the Galloping Ghost, after NBC split Space Race into 3 separate half-hour shows (Galaxy Goof-Ups was the 3rd part) just 2 months into the 1978-9 season. Decent stuff, and the guy doing Goofer's voice did such a dead-on Jim Nabors mimic, I actually thought for a while it really was Nabors.
ReplyDeleteI remember when I first saw Jim Nabors, that boy, he sure sounded like deputy Goofer!
