Gilligan's Planet

Gilligan's Planet was a Saturday morning cartoon which aired during the 1982-1983 season on CBS.

Gilligan's Planet hinged on the premise that the Professor had managed to build an operational interplanetary spaceship to get the castaways of the original series off the island. True to form of the castaways' perpetual bad luck, they rocketed off into space and crash-landed on an unknown planet, which coincidentally had an atmosphere that was breathable to humans and had edible foodstuffs—in fact, the background of the planet often resembled little more than the tropical island they were stuck on all those years, but was simply recolored to make it seem more "alien". The rocket, of course, was severely damaged in the crash, and the Professor resumed his perpetual attempts to repair their only way home.

Fifteen by Beverly Cleary

Fifteen was written by Beverly Cleary in 1977.

It seems too good to be true. The most popular boy in school has asked Jane out -- and she's never even dated before. Stan is tall and good-looking, friendly and hard-working -- everything Jane ever dreamed of. But is she ready for this?

Suppose her parents won't let her go? What if she's nervous and makes a fool of herself? Maybe he'll think she's too young. If only she knew all the clever things to say. If only she were prettier. If only she were ready for this...

Lawn Dart Set

We had this Lawn Dart Set when I was a kid. In doing a little research on them, I found that in they were actually banned in the US after a little girl was killed by one. Luckily, we played with our set for years without a single injury.

Life Goes On

Life Goes On was a television series that aired on ABC from 1989 to 1993. The show centers on the Thatchers: Drew and his wife Elizabeth and their children Becca, who was gifted but socially awkward with her fellow classmates, Corky, who had Down syndrome, and Paige, their eldest daughter.

During the show's first year, the focus mainly was placed upon Corky. Much of the show examined the challenges of a family whose son had Down Syndrome. In addition, during the first three seasons, episodes included Tyler Benchfield, Becca's high school crush, who also had a brother with Down syndrome. Eventually, Becca and Tyler would start a relationship.

In the third and fourth seasons the show's focus centered on Becca and a new character named Jesse. As the two became friends, Jesse told Becca he was HIV positive. Becca and Jesse began a relationship, despite his HIV, much to the surprise of those around them.

Sesame Street: Animated Typewriter

An animated typewriter with eyes and arms, and mobile wheels appeared on Sesame Street beginning in Season 6. The Typewriter would demonstrate letters by typing out the letter, and a word beginning with it, on himself. He often fumbled, which frustrated him. The Typewriter's most notable dialogue, apart from announcing the letter and the word, was his trademark "Noo-nee-noo-nee-noo" sounds.

Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren

Another book I enjoyed reading when I was young was this book, Pippi Longstocking, by Astrid Lindgren.

Pippi's mother is an angel, her father is a ship's captain who was lost at sea - Pippi believes he's become a cannibal king. She moves into the home that her father had meant for them to live in together, Villa Villekulla, and starts shaking things up for her new neighbors, Tommy and Annika. Pippi is stronger than the strongest man in the universe, doesn't attend school, tells fantastic tall tales and generally does whatever she chooses. She's as funny as you remember her being!

It was originally created by accident during research into potential rubber substitutes for use by the United States in World War II.

It is sold as a 13 g (0.46 oz) piece of plastic clay inside an egg-shaped plastic container. It is available in various colors, including glow-in-the-dark and metallic.

Charles in Charge

Charles in Charge was a sitcom series which aired on on CBS from 1984 to 1985 and 1987 to 1990. It stared Scott Baio as Charles, a 19-year-old student at the fictional Copeland College in New Jersey, who worked as a live-in babysitter in exchange for room and board.

Charles first worked for the Pembroke family: wife Jill, husband Stan, and their three children, Lila, Douglas, and Jason. When the show ended its run on CBS, and entered first-run syndication in 1987, the story explained that the Pembrokes sub-leased their house and moved to Seattle, and the Powells moved in instead, thereby allowing Charles to live downstairs yet again. This time, the family consisted of grandfather Walter, mother Ellen (whose husband was in the military, and consequently could only visit his family sporadically), and her three children, Jamie, Sarah, and Adam.

The Buford Files

The Buford Files was an NBC Saturday morning cartoon produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1979.

Buford is a smart but sleepy bloodhound who lives deep in the murky swamp county of Fenokee. He teams up with two teenagers, Cindy Mae and her older brother Woody, and the trio solves confusing mysteries that baffle Sheriff Muletrain Pettigrew and his overeager, but dimwitted deputy Goofer McGee. Buford's abilities are expanded with ears that revolve like radar dishes, and his nose responds to clues like a geiger counter; he also howls his heart out when the moon comes out and has a running feud with a karate-wacking raccoon.

Blubber by Judy Blume

Blubber was written by Judy Blume in 1974.

Blubber is a good name for her, the note from Caroline said about Linda. Jill crumpled it up and left it on the corner of her school desk. She didn't want to think about Linda or her dumb report on the whale just then. Jill wanted to think about Halloween.

But Robby grabbed the note and before Linda stopped talking it had gone halfway around the room.

That's where it all started...there was something about Linda that made a lot of kids in her fifth-grade class want to see how far they could go...but nobody, Jill least of all, expected the fun to end where it did.
