A Different World was a television sitcom which aired on NBC from 1987 to 1993. It originally centered on Denise Huxtable and the life of students at Hillman College, a fictional historically black college in the state of Virginia. Later seasons of the show focused on other characters, including mathematics whiz Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert.Other memorable characters included Maggie Lauten, Jaleesa Vinson-Taylor, Ron Johnson, Jr., Walter Oakes, and Kimberly Reese.
