1980's Friendship Pins and Bracelets

If you were a girl during the 1980’s, and you had friends, you probably were given friendship pins and bracelets. . .and, more than likely, you created a multitude of your own and gave them away to all of your girlfriends as well.

If you were a proud recipient of a coveted friendship pin, you proudly displayed it (along with every other friendship pin that you received) on your tennis shoes, attaching them to your shoe laces. Whether you wore leather hi-top Reeboks, kangaroos, jazz shoes or a worn out pair of Chuck Taylor’s, if you had friends, you had pins on your shoes.

1980's Clear/Transparent Phone

Does anyone else remember these clear/transparent phones that were popular in the 80's? I had one when I was a teenager and I remember that it lit up when it rang. It sure brings back a lot of good memories of spending hours on the phone!

Children's Disneyland Plate and Bowl

I recently found this photo of a children's Disneyland plate and bowl that I had when I was a child. The plate depicts my favorite Disney character's riding the Tea Cup ride and the bowl shows Minnie Mouse and Dumbo flying around. What great childhood memories these bring back!

The Brady Bunch: Keep On Movin'

Keep On Movin' is a 1973 song that was sung by the Brady kids from the popular television sitcom The Brady Bunch.

The episode is title "Amateur Nite". The kids appear on a television talent show to win $100 for Mike and Carol's anniversary gift. This was the result of Jan's misunderstanding the price for the engraving of a tray the kids had intended to give their parents (it was 85 cents per letter, not for the entire engraving).

The Brady Bunch: Time to Change

Time to Change was a song sung by The Brady Bunch kids on the episode "Dough Re Mi," which aired in 1972. It was memorable because the refrain humorously featured Peter's voice cracking as the group sung the lyrics "When its time to change, you've got to rearrange".

Swatch Watch

Remember how popular Swatch watches were in the 80's?!? I actually found a photo of the one I had -- It was a 1986 Lionheart/Coat of Arms. I loved that watch! You could even buy rubber watch guards to prevent the face of the watch from getting scratched.

Raggedy Ann and Andy Lunch Box

This is a 1973 embossed metal Raggedy Ann and Andy lunch box and plastic thermos. Both were made by Aladdin Industries Incorporated.

"A Rankin Bass Production" bumper

Here is a short "A Rankin Bass Production" bumper that was shown right before one of their seasonal television specials, including Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and Frosty the Snowman.

Walt Disney World Lunch Box

This embossed Walt Disney World metal lunch box is exactly like the one I carried to school when I was a kid. It features my favorite Disney characters as well as stylized renderings of Walt Disney World attractions - including the jungle cruise, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the monorail, and the Swiss Family Robinson's Treehouse. The back of the box pictures the Country Bear Jamboree. What great memories!!

Little Professor

Little Professor was manufactured in 1976 by Texas Instruments.

A reverse calculator of sorts, Little Professor displayed basic arithmetic questions of varying difficulty which the user was to answer using the numeric keypad. A correct answer produced 'RIGHT!' and a new question on the single line LED, while an incorrect answer I think produced 'WRONG!' and the same question. There were 3-4 levels of difficulty in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Stickers, stickers, stickers!!

Stickers were very popular in the 80's. I had a pink sticker book filled with all kinds of stickers.My favorites were the scratch 'n sniff, like the Gordy stickers above. The best smelling ones were pizza, popcorn, pickle and cotton candy. They had a really stinky ones too. Puffy stickers and Wacky Packages were also popular!

Raggedy Ann and Andy Talking Alarm Clock

Raggedy Ann and Andy Talking Alarm Clock was made by Janex in 1974.

Raggedy Ann wakes you saying:
"Andy, Andy, please get up. It's time to call our friends. Ok, Ann, I'm awake, let's shout it once again. We were sent to wake you, so here we are to say, 'Please get up, brush your teeth and start your Happy Day.'"

I had this clock when I was a child. My mom had decorated my room in a Raggedy Ann theme. I also had a set of 4-5 Raggedy Ann dolls that varied in sizes. I also received a Raggedy Ann Colorforms set. I will write more about them later!

Ice Bird

Ice Bird by Kenner was released in 1974. This toy made shaved ice by shaving a large block of ice you froze yourself.
